Kwik Fit hosted its annual Tyre Insight Day on October 22 at Mercedes-Benz World, located on the historic Brooklands racing circuit, to help fleet operators understand the impact of tyre choices on performance. The event featured insights from Kwik Fit’s parent group, European Tyre Enterprise Limited (ETEL), and strategic partner Continental, with attendees participating in information-sharing sessions and driving activities on the facility’s tracks.
Event Highlights and Industry Participation
The day’s program emphasized how different tyre selections affect road holding performance across various conditions. A record 25 leasing companies and fleet operators attended, collectively managing tyre requirements for over 1.5 million vehicles. These fleets span from electric vehicle operations to large light commercial vehicle owner-operators, demonstrating the growing industry focus on tyre management.
The event showcased the challenge fleets face due to increasing tyre complexity in the UK vehicle market. Tom Edwards, Kwik Fit’s sales director and host, highlighted examples such as new models arriving with ‘silent’ tyres on one axle but not the other, and a single model featuring 24 different tyre specifications across its variants. This complexity reflects both the expanding number of vehicle marques and models in the UK and the varied options available for individual vehicles.
Technical Insights and Supply Chain Solutions
Continental’s technical experts provided insights into how premium tyre manufacturers develop bespoke compounds to meet original equipment manufacturer demands. Interactive demonstrations illustrated the effects of rolling resistance, pressure, and wear on tyre performance. Sessions from ETEL sister companies addressed logistical challenges from the proliferation of tyre stock-keeping units and sustainable end-of-life tyre processing within the UK supply chain.
Murfitts Industries explained ETEL’s commitment to fully audited and sustainable processing of all end-of-life tyres, ensuring fleet customers can trust their supply chain. These presentations illustrated the industry’s adaptation to evolving tyre technologies and manufacturing advances driven by OEM customer requirements.
Future Outlook and Event Growth
Edwards noted that the insight day has become a key event in Kwik Fit’s annual calendar, expressing gratitude to Continental for its support and to customers for their active participation. He emphasized that knowledge sharing is central to the event’s value, with plans already underway for 2027 as new tyre technologies continue to emerge for vehicle manufacturers.
