By late 2026, Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce the new GLC Electric in India, with reservations opening in early October of that year. This electric SUV will be locally assembled, marking it as one of the fastest globally produced models to reach India in this manner.
Performance and Range
Offered in the 400 4Matic variant, the GLC Electric features a 94kWh NMC battery and dual motors, delivering all-wheel drive. This system generates a total of 490 HP and 800 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.3 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
The vehicle boasts a WLTP-certified range of up to 715 km. However, real-world range in India may differ based on factors like driving speed, traffic conditions, weather, and individual driving habits.
Design and Specifications
India will receive the standard-wheelbase model of the GLC Electric, with a wheelbase measuring 2972 mm. While a longer-wheelbase version is available in China, Mercedes-Benz has chosen not to offer it in the Indian market.
The GLC Electric embodies Mercedes-Benz’s contemporary design language, maintaining traditional SUV dimensions. Notable design features include star-inspired LED lighting, a lit grille, and smooth, curved body panels.
Optional AMG Line enhancements and wheels up to 21 inches in size can be added for a sportier appearance. The rear features a full-width LED light bar, giving the SUV a unique and modern look.
Interior Highlights
A standout interior feature is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which spans the dashboard and combines the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and passenger display into one seamless interface.
Pricing and Market Position
Local production may impact the GLC Electric’s pricing in India, potentially offering a competitive edge over imported luxury electric SUVs. The final price will depend on the level of local manufacturing and the features included.
The GLC Electric is anticipated to be priced between Rs. 80 lakh and Rs. 90 lakh (ex-showroom), though this is an estimate until Mercedes-Benz confirms the official price. It will compete in a growing premium EV segment, facing rivals like the upcoming BMW iX3, expected in India by 2027.
