Peugeot‘s CEO, Alain Favey, has expressed interest in bringing the 805bhp E-T16 hyper hatch to production, should there be sufficient demand. The E-T16 Concept, unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, is a modern interpretation of the 1980s rally champion, the 205 T16.
The E-T16 boasts a triple-motor powertrain, delivering 805bhp to all four wheels, resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 2.5 seconds. This puts it in the same league as the Ferrari 296 GTB and the Bugatti Veyron.
Technical Specifications
The E-T16 features an 800v architecture, built around an 85kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of 249 miles WLTP. The vehicle’s weight stands at 1610kg, 160kg more than the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.
Peugeot has provided detailed technical specifications, including brake sizing and tyre sizes. The E-T16 also features an improved battery cooling system, which cools the pack through its side walls, allowing it to complete three laps of the Nürburgring without overheating.
Design and Interior
The E-T16’s design takes inspiration from the original T16, with inflated arches, a sculpted bonnet, and oversized air intakes. The interior features an enhanced version of Peugeot’s claw lighting signature, as well as a configurable 21-inch central display and carbonfibre bucket seats.
The cabin also provides a glimpse into the next generation of Peugeot interiors, with an early preview of the next Digital ‘i-Cockpit’ and a ‘Hypersquare’ steering wheel inspired by the Peugeot 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar.
Potential Production
According to Alain Favey, if the E-T16 were to enter production, it would likely have a limited production run, lower than the 1980 units of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. A ballpark price of €200k has been mentioned, although this has not been finalized.
A single importer has already requested 50 units, indicating potential demand for the vehicle. Should the E-T16 enter production, it would be a significant addition to the hyper hatch market, offering a unique blend of performance and style.
Market Context
The E-T16 Concept’s potential production comes at a time when the hyper hatch market is gaining traction. With the Renault 5 Turbo 3E already available, a production version of the E-T16 would provide an interesting alternative for those seeking a high-performance hatchback.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the E-T16 Concept represents an exciting development in the world of electric vehicles. With its impressive performance capabilities and sleek design, it is likely to generate significant interest among car enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
Alain Favey’s announcement has sparked interest in the potential production of the E-T16. They are now waiting to see if there is sufficient demand to bring the vehicle to market.
