The SUV category continues to lead Spain’s vehicle market, with registrations through September 2026 demonstrating sustained strength across both established and emerging brands. Leading the rankings are models spanning compact urban designs to larger family-oriented vehicles, including the Renault Captur, BYD Atto 2, Hyundai Tucson, and Nissan Qashqai.

Toyota strengthens its position with two models in the top four

The Toyota C-HR holds the top spot with 18,051 registrations, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone for Toyota in Spain. Its unique styling, hybrid powertrain availability—including plug-in hybrid versions—and ECO certification for hybrid models have driven its success. The C-HR’s compact form and fuel efficiency position it as a top choice for city commuters.

In fourth place, the Toyota Yaris Cross follows with 15,738 units sold, further cementing Toyota’s leadership in the compact SUV class. Like its sibling, the Yaris Cross emphasizes hybrid technology and ECO label eligibility to attract buyers seeking reduced emissions without committing to full electrification. Its compact dimensions and urban adaptability enhance its market appeal.

The MG ZS ranks second with 16,708 registrations, its popularity stemming from competitive pricing, practical SUV attributes, and a range of mechanical configurations. The model has gained ground by delivering premium-like features at accessible price points.

European brands maintain their foothold in mid-size demand

The Seat Arona claims third place with 16,406 units, a staple of Seat’s lineup known for its compact size, gasoline engines, and urban-focused design. Buyers drawn to its easy maneuverability and raised ride height continue to favor it over alternatives.

Peugeot’s 2008 secures fifth place with 15,289 registrations, offering diverse powertrain options, including a fully electric variant. This flexibility allows Peugeot to serve customers with varying preferences, from conventional engines to zero-emission alternatives.

Hyundai’s Tucson ranks sixth with 14,406 units, targeting families with its roomy interior and hybrid electrification. The model’s ECO label and advanced safety technologies contribute to its consistent sales performance.

The Nissan Qashqai, a long-time European favorite, holds seventh place with 13,587 registrations. Its latest iteration retains family-oriented features, including Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid system and mild-hybrid technology, ensuring its competitiveness in the mid-size SUV segment.

Peugeot 2008’s Market Position and Model Variations

The Peugeot 2008 competes in a crowded field of urban SUVs, offering a range of choices from smaller models like the Renault Captur and BYD Atto 2 to larger options such as the Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Qashqai. This variety allows buyers to select a vehicle that best fits their size and usage needs.

Compact urban SUVs lead the lower half of the rankings

The Renault Captur occupies eighth place with 13,212 units, maintaining its reputation as a versatile urban SUV. Its small size, combined with both combustion and electrified powertrain choices, suits city driving needs.

The Volkswagen T-Roc trails closely with 13,200 registrations, just three units behind the Captur. Volkswagen’s model distinguishes itself with a compact yet spacious feel and a full suite of mechanical and technological features that match or exceed those of competitors.

Rounding out the top ten is the BYD Atto 2, the only fully electric SUV in the ranking, with 12,360 units sold. Its inclusion marks the growing presence of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers in Spain and the rising mainstream appeal of zero-emission urban SUVs.

The combined registrations for these top ten models total 149,047 through September 2026, highlighting the SUV segment’s stronghold in Spain’s automotive environment. While Toyota dominates with two entries in the top four, the rankings also feature a mix of European and Asian brands, reflecting the diverse tastes of Spanish consumers.
